A REFLECTION FROM OUR FOUNDER AND WELCOME to G ODE in 2025

We hope you’re making your way through the beginning of this year as safely and with as much care as possible. Our thoughts are with people all over the world that are being affected by situations beyond their control – including of course our friends, colleagues and country(wo)men in Los Angeles.
We’d love to hear what beginning this year has been like for you and what you want to gravitate towards for the rest of it. G Ode was designed as a space where our subscribers feel able to assess and consider, privately through our Reflection Pad or in community through our comments and social channels.
In the spirit of reflection, while working on exciting stories and projects for the next phase of G Ode, we asked our founder Gillian a few questions that she graciously shared about some personal considerations and thoughts for the year ahead.
How are you and what’s something that’s on your mind for 2025?
Well thank you for asking. I’m good. Been more than a little distracted by the horrors that have been playing out in my old neighbourhoods in LA. It is the first time in my life that a city that I know so well and have loved has turned into a veritable war zone. Last year was quite intense work-wise and I was away from home which doesn’t really make me happy so this year I’m going to be much more mindful about my choices and the impact on the rest of my life. But in this moment I’m grateful to be finished with all that, grateful that I'm still being offered work in the first place! Grateful that I was able to rest (ish) and have my family descend over the holiday break and grateful that my extended family is alive and well and was able to travel overseas to be with us.
What's a recent memorable moment that will stay with you?
The positive response to the book (WANT) and all the amazing conversations particularly with women that I’ve had around it. So much good work by so many went into creating the beautiful profound thing that it is and my pride and gratitude will last for a very long time.
Have you learned anything new about yourself since starting G Ode last year?
That everything takes me a really long time. Particularly while simultaneously filming. Yanking my brain from one thing I’m immersed in, into something completely different, I find challenging. I mean usually when filming I don’t even leave the hotel when not on set and spend the weekend pretty much resting, catching up with family and working solely on the following weeks’ scenes so… looking over copy and images and making decisions about articles and interview subjects and feeding in notes on TOV and designs and and and… it’s a lot. BUT I’m getting better at it or at least I’m starting to admit my struggles (as if my fabulous team hadn’t noticed) and together we will find a solution.
Thank you so much for being a part of this journey with us particularly given our still beta stage-couldn’t do any of it without you.
It’s good to share
